Our Story
And the things I wish had been kept for me.
I started Moments by Mail Co. because of the things I wish I had kept, and the things I wish had been kept for me.
When I was 22 years old, my dad unexpectedly became very sick. After a month in the hospital, he passed away. I was fresh out of nursing school, still trying to figure out adulthood, and suddenly my world felt completely shattered.
This was before smartphones became part of everyday life. Most of our photos were printed and stored in bins. We had old VHS tapes we would eventually convert years later. And as time passed, I realized there was something I wanted even more than photos.
I wanted his words.
Not just birthday cards or signatures, but his stories. His handwriting. His thoughts about life. I wanted to know more about his childhood, his memories, the things I never thought to ask while growing up. I would give anything to have something handwritten by him now.
Years later, when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, I signed her up for a popular email-based memory book. I thought she was filling out the prompts and sharing her stories. But as her health declined and she could barely function, I checked and realized she had not completed them.
She passed away a month and a half before my second child was born.
And once again, I found myself wishing I had more.
More of her words.
More of her stories.
More of her handwriting.
There is something deeply personal about seeing the handwriting of someone you love. It feels different than typed words on a screen. More human. More real. More lasting.
At the same time, I was becoming a busy working mom myself. I bought baby books with every intention of filling them out perfectly, but life moved quickly and I struggled to keep up. I did not need another complicated project. I needed something gentle. Something simple enough to actually continue.
That is where Moments by Mail Co. began.
I wanted to create meaningful keepsakes that help people preserve stories, memories, and everyday moments in the most human way possible: through handwritten words on paper.
In a world increasingly filled with technology, automation, and AI, I truly believe nothing can replace the feeling of holding a handwritten note from someone you love.
These collections were created to make memory keeping approachable again, for busy parents, for grandparents, for families, for anyone who wants to leave behind more than digital memories.
Just simple prompts.
Real handwriting.
And the moments that matter most.
